Gas Spring Maintenance Guide

As an important functional component in the fields of industry, automobiles, furniture, medical equipment, etc., gas springs provide stable support and cushioning effects through internal high-pressure gas. Its performance directly affects the safety and reliability of the equipment. To ensure the long-term stable operation of gas springs, the scientific maintenance work is essential.

1. Daily maintenance

Surface cleaning: Use a dry cloth or soft brush to remove dust and oil stains on the surface of the gas spring to prevent impurities from entering the sealing ring and causing wear.

Lubrication cycle: Apply special grease (silicon-based or lithium-based grease is recommended) to the surface of the piston rod at least once a quarter to reduce friction resistance.

Operation specification: Clean the piston rod before lubrication to avoid applying grease to areas outside the sealing ring to prevent dust absorption.

2. Periodic inspection

Damage investigation: Check whether the piston rod is bent and whether the surface coating is peeling (scratches may accelerate the wear of the sealing ring).

Connector status: Confirm that the mounting bolts and hinges are not loose or rusted, and tighten them with a torque wrench if necessary.

Support force detection: Use a special pressure tester to measure whether the output force of the gas spring is within the nominal range (if the error exceeds ±15%, it needs to be replaced).

Leak detection: Apply soapy water to the joints at both ends of the gas spring and the root of the piston rod to observe whether bubbles are generated. If there is leakage, it needs to be stopped and replaced immediately.

3. Fault prevention and emergency treatment

Support force reduction: It may be caused by internal nitrogen leakage or aging of the sealing ring, and it needs to be replaced in time.

Abnormal sound or vibration: Check whether the connector is loose, or whether the gas spring has liquid hammer due to insufficient gas purity.

4. Environmental adaptability optimization

Gas springs with high-temperature resistant sealing materials need to be selected in high-temperature environments (such as engine compartments);

The low-temperature fluidity of grease needs to be confirmed in low-temperature environments (such as cold storage equipment).

Conclusion

Gas springs can significantly reduce the risk of unexpected downtime and extend their service life through standardized daily operations, periodic in-depth inspections, and scientific fault management. Especially in high-frequency usage scenarios (such as car tailgates and industrial robotic arms), it is recommended to include gas spring maintenance in the overall equipment maintenance plan to ensure the stability and safety of the system operation.
